Congratulations on becoming the proud owner of a beautiful set of LAhair Extensions! To maximise the life of your extensions and ensure they remain shiny, healthy and smooth to touch, here are our recommendations on how to care for them.
Loop brushes and extension brushes are specifically designed to gently brush through hair extensions, both clip-in and permanent extensions, to ensure the weft is maintained and joins aren’t pulled.
Brushing your hair with a Boar Bristle Brush will help carry the scalp’s natural oils through to the ends.
As extensions aren’t still connected to the scalp, they don’t get the natural oils that your own hair gets, and because extensions are usually long (to extend your own hair) they can tangle. Just like you would your own hair if you had very long and thick hair, it is essential you brush daily (if wearing them daily) to maintain a knot-free, smooth mane of hair.
When brushing, divide the hair into top and bottom sections and work through each section gently, one at a time. Begin with the bottom section, and starting from the bottom of the hair and working your way up, brush through softly and gently working any tangles or knots out before then going up the strand. If you try and brush straight through the strand from the root down, you will catch any knot that might exist and drag it through the rest of the hair. This will result in either breakage or increasing the tangle size.
Applying heat to hair opens the cuticle and can damage and dry out the strand. Therefore, always try and use a heat protectant spray/serum prior to heat therapy to preserve the quality of the hair. Treat it like you would treat your own hair – with love and care.
Salon quality shampoos are the best, as they are made of better quality ingredients. You want to wash your hair gently, and avoid stripping the extensions of moisture and oils (as they aren’t connected to your head, any moisture and oil must be manually applied to keep them soft and smooth). A conditioner is a must, as is leave-in conditioners and moisturising oils and serums.
Storage cases and silk storage bags are great for keeping your extensions flat and avoiding tangles and static damage. When you aren’t using your extensions, keep them in a dry flat place avoiding direct sunlight.
Whilst you can colour and tone your LAhair, keep in mind that LAhair has already been colour-altered and processed. Therefore any further colouring, dying or bleaching process will change the quality of the hair. Should you choose to dye your hair extensions, please keep in mind these general rules to ensure you maintain the amazing condition of the hair as best as possible:
When it’s time to hit the pillow, as AMAZING as bed-hair is to look at (!) there’s nothing more tiresome then waking up to knotted and tangled extensions. So, we recommend plaiting/braiding your hair at night time in a simple and loose plait. This keeps it all neatly together (no matter how much of a restless sleeper you are) and will result in a smooth and soft curl the next morning – perfection!
As mentioned above, heat styling (including blow-drying) damages the hair and therefore we recommend allowing your extensions to air-dry as much as possible. We love applying a smoothing serum/oil to our extensions prior to air-drying. Also remember to always ensure your extensions are completely dry (both at the root/weft joins) and ends prior to sleeping with them or putting them in storage.
